Launching into semester two with a full agenda and lot of energy, is the newly comprised Board of Management.
The recent move from Board members to Trustees, has seen parents Sarah Laird and Derek Montgomery, join the Trustee team to set the strategic direction for our School.  Also stepping aside this year, after tremendously creative and practical contributions, was Kevin Euphemie and Walker Zabriskie. Kevin in his role as Treasurer, played a critical role in helping us achieve a sustainable financial outlook and improved processes. Contributing to the strategic thinking, creative problem solving and the design of the Living and Learning Ambitions, Walker gave countless hours of time and talent over many years. Along with Jennipher Spector who finished her term as the elected Teacher Representative on the Board, we honour and thank all these community-minded people for their uniquely individual and collective contributions.
Following an invitation to the parent community, seeking expressions of interest in Board membership, the newly formed Board was installed with the blessing of the Trustees in August. Joining the selected parent members, are the elected Teacher Representative and the GSPA appointed representative. The 2018/19 Board of Management is:
Kate Druhan (Chair)
Jan Smits (Treasurer)
Nikolas Stegelmann (Secretary)
Sri Darwiati (Balinese Parent)
Esther Milanzi (Teacher Representative)
Rina Daniels (GSPA Representative)
Tony Vovers
Cameron Elliot
Leslie Medema
Supporting the work of the Board and harnessing the talent of our community, are a suite of Sub-Committees. These groups are a mix of Board members, staff and parents (who expressed interest via a community call-out earlier this year). The initial teams forming, reflect strategic areas of focus – People, Learning, Sustainability, Enterprise, and Finance.
Our Governance Policy and Model came into effect in 2016 and in a recent review, two amendments were made:
  • Two-year membership terms for Board of Management positions. Membership can be extended but will be reviewed after two years, based on School priorities. This was a change from three-year terms.
  • As a principle, the Board of Management will have gender equality in its membership composition.
As always, we will keep you informed of any major develops over the year, including the upcoming publishing of the new Green School Strategic Plan.
With great respect.
Kate Druhan
